Margaritas are the perfect complement — or focal point, let’s be honest — of Cinco de Mayo festivities everywhere.

Prep Time

Ingredients
  1. 2 oz tequila (mixologist’s choice)
  2. 2 oz Grand Marnier
  3. 2 oz jalapeño simple syrup
  4. 2 oz lime juice
  5. 3 oz mango juice
  6. Sliced jalapeño to taste
  7. Sugar or salt for the rim
Instructions
  1. For the uninitiated, simple syrup is made by boiling water and adding sugar an equal amount of sugar. Once water is at a rolling boil, add the sugar. Let the combination cool in a separate jar, and add jalapeños to infuse. The longer it sits, the more jalapeño flavor will infuse in the simple syrup -- we went with 24 hours for a nice kick.
For the drink
  1. Add sugar or salt to the rim (coat the rim with lime juice first to help it stick).
  2. Muddle a couple fresh jalapeño slices in the bottom of the glass in which you plan on serving the cocktail. If you don’t have a muddler, the back of a thick spoon or spatula will work -- the point is to crush the peppers to get the juice out!
  3. Add the tequila, Grand Marnier, simple syrup, lime juice and mango juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake thoroughly and pour over ice/jalapeño in glass.

Huge thank you to Sherwin-Williams for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Life is full of complex decisions. Like when my hubs and I are at the neighborhood frozen yogurt shop and I’m staring at the levers for both strawberry and swiss chocolate – the struggle is real. Landon is stuck between the cake batter and the cookies and cream. Oh, the suspense… Or when I’m deciding between a salted or sugar rim for my favorite strawberry jalapeno margarita…do I really want sweet or salty?

Now imagine our trouble when faced with an actual difficult decision like what color to paint our new home. Believe me when I say it’s intimidating. There are thousands of different combinations between all of the types, sheens, colors, and shades that can make the process feel extremely overwhelming.

But luckily for you, we’re here to boil down that crazy process. For the frozen yogurt dilemma, just get both flavors and your problem is solved. For the paint decision, follow these simple steps!

Step 1 – Determine Your Color Palette

Selecting your color palette is the most important step in determining the perfect Sherwin-Williams colors to complement your home and decor. It sets the entire tone for your home and helps determine the mood and ambience that you want to create. Lighter colors can make a smaller room look bigger, while darker colors can make a room feel smaller but cozier. Do you want to create a peaceful and sophisticated tone? Consider blues, greens, or neutrals. Looking for a cozy and welcoming vibe? Consider warmer colors like red or yellows.

Landon and I wanted to create a spa-like oasis in our home, so I knew we wanted a combination of light grays and seafoam greens or spa blues. Okay, so that narrows it down to only about 458 shades. Great. Help hone in on a color family by gathering any fabrics you know you want incorporated in your home and using them as a guideline for matching wall color and furniture! I also created this handy inspo board, which really helped me direct my color choices!

Step 2 – Get Familiar with the Colors with the ColorSnap Visualizer

Y’all, if you’re not familiar with the ColorSnap Visualizer tool, drop everything and get over to their site ASAP. Seriously. It’ll change your life.

Between the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo this weekend, there are no shortages of parties or reasons to celebrate! We’ll never turn down a good margarita, but when it’s countered with a refreshing mint julep, a derby hat and a garden party, we may need to pause.

Now that we are finally getting settled in our new home, I’m always looking for reasons to host an outdoor gathering. So with the Kentucky Derby this weekend, we’re going all out! Whether you’re looking to host a last minute gathering with your gals or wanting to host a swanky derby soiree, we’ve got you covered with our Kentucky Derby Entertaining Essentials!

Enjoy!

Special thanks to Pyrex for sponsoring this post!

Few things are more magical than Christmas morning. Staying in your pajamas, stockings on the mantle and the excitement of gifts to and from family and friends will warm the heart. And for us, this Christmas is even more special as my husband and I celebrate our first married Christmas together and start our own family traditions.

If you’re doing Christmas right, the merriment is only made better by the food! Aromas of baked goods or the preparing of the family feast drift through the house to help create the perfect holiday ambiance. But, let’s be real — as relaxing as we want the morning to be, there’s a certain bustle to it that can make one short on time for a tasty breakfast.

My husband and I are determined to make Christmas breakfast and important tradition in our family, and that’s where this Christmas Cranberry Orange French Toast Bake comes in! It’s going to take the stress out of our holiday breakfast decision and give us plenty of time for everything else that makes Christmas the best day of the year. It’s the perfect combination of wintry flavors — cranberries, cinnamon and nutmeg — creating a magnificent mix of sweet and savory that your family is sure to enjoy as well!

And even better, it’s an easy treat that can be prepped primarily on Christmas Eve!

To make this festive little number, prepare your french toast the night before in a 13×9 inch Pyrex baking dish (you can also use two of the Pyrex 1.3 quart oval baking dishes if you want to save one for later). Everything can be prepared, stored overnight, and then baked in this Pyrex dish first thing in the morning, so breakfast is ready to go as soon as your earliest risers are ready!

Start by spraying the Pyrex baking dish with cooking spray. Cut a loaf of french toast in 1-inch cubes and spread evenly in a single layer at the base of the dish. Top with a granulated sugar, orange zest, and cranberry mixture. Be sure to cover evenly so every bite gets some of that sugary goodness!

In a separate large Pyrex mixing bowl, add eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg (all my favorite Christmas flavors!). Whisk until fully combined and pour the mixture evenly over the top of the bread in the Pyrex baking dish.

Now for the fun (and most delicious part). In a separate medium bowl, make the cinnamon streusel topping with flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Use a pastry blender to fully blend into small crumbles. If you don’t have a pastry blender, a fork will work just fine but may take an extra couple minutes. Sprinkle the streusel over the top of your french toast bake and cover with a plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Now you’ve done a bulk of the leg work and can enjoy a festive Christmas Eve cocktail (here’s my favorite!). On Christmas morning, all you have to do is preheat the oven, replace the plastic wrap with an aluminum foil and bake away! After 60 minutes of your house filling with sweet and festive aromas, your french toast bake is ready to go!

Remove your Pyrex from the oven and bring directly over to the table to enjoy! Preparation, storage, baking, and serving all in one dish! That’s a win in my book!

Oh, and make extras… The leftovers are arguably even better, and can be stored or shared with the other containers in the Pyrex family! This scrumptious Christmas breakfast is sure to become one of your favorite traditions.

Enjoy!

The Everyday Hostess and IBB at Home Summer Soiree

As originally seen in IBB at Home.

Summer is officially here, so it’s time to dust off the patio furniture, bring out the lawn games, and prepare for your summer soirée! Whether you’re looking to host a formal seasonal dinner or casual pool party, these tips and tricks will help to ensure your summer gathering goes off without a hitch!

Choose a Theme – The theme will dictate every step of the party prep process, so it’s important to determine it early on. Do you want a laid back family pool party, formal summer dinner party, or even a backyard luau? The possibilities are endless! For my summer bash, I opted for a more casual picnic gathering with some close family and friends!

Guest List and InvitationsA well-done invitation gives your guests a glimpse of just how classy your summer soirée will be. It’s the first chance to sweep them off their feet, so make sure your invitations help portray the theme and experience you want to create. If your event is more casual and you want to send electronic invitations, I always love Paperless Post or Evite. To create a more formal atmosphere, send some good ol’ fashioned snail mail! Swoozies is one of my favorite custom invitation shops. I also love Etsy for predesigned printable invitations! Check out my friend Tara with PrintSmitten who designed this beautiful and festive invite for our summer soirée

Decor – Decorations turn a simple gathering into its own little world for your guests and set the ambiance and formality for the entire evening. Select a simple and bright color palette and incorporate it into all aspects of the decor. I am a firm believer that it’s all in the details, so be sure to add a few extra special touches to completely transform the party. For my backyard summer picnic, I went with a yellow, coral and aqua color palette, which helped create a light and airy atmosphere. The yellow picnic blanket with the decorative pillows, paper straws, gorgeous floral arrangements, and table settings all helped create a casual yet sophisticated summer soirée.

Menu – No gathering is complete without the perfect menu! Summer is all about highlighting fresh foods, so try and incorporate some seasonal ingredients. I always like to provide easy, servable and bite-sized dishes such as watermelon, my favorite Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Ring Sliders, and chips and guacamole.

In addition to beer and wine, it’s nice to serve a signature cocktail such as a fruit sangria or margarita. Also be sure to provide a non-alcoholic drink such as a fresh lemonade. This Strawberry Moscato Lemonade is the perfect addition to your next gathering and the alcohol can easily be removed for all the kiddos!

Entertainment – It’s always fun to have an interactive element to a party to encourage mingling, especially if your guests don’t know each other that well. For a casual backyard party, I love the idea of lawn games like croquet or bocce ball. For those inspired by graphic design, cute scorecards could be added here! You could also set up a fire pit so people can make s’mores! Make sure to have a fun playlist going in the background to help set the mood for your party as well!

Finally, relax and enjoy your party! Don’t worry about cleaning while your guests are still there. That can wait until they leave! Have a cocktail or two and enjoy! You’ve worked hard!
